Biography

Before joining Smith, Costello & Crawford, DJ served as Chief of Staff in the Massachusetts State Senate, where he built a reputation for energizing civic engagement, strengthening political operations from the ground up, and knowing exactly which levers to pull (and which ones not to). With a foundation in public administration and a genuine commitment to service, he made a career out of translating government-speak into real results for real people. His mission has always been simple: champion bold, evidence-based policies that actually work, and make communities better off because of it.

Previously, DJ was a Principal at the Dewey Square Group, leading advocacy and public affairs campaigns for clients across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, often all at once. He also served as a Policy Advisor in the office of the Massachusetts Senate President, supporting legislative and policy initiatives across a wide range of issue areas and learning firsthand how things really get done on Beacon Hill. DJ began his career in public service as Political Director for the Steve Grossman gubernatorial campaign and as Constituent Services Coordinator for Congressman John Tierney, where he cut his teeth on grassroots organizing, constituent engagement, and the fine art of keeping campaigns, offices, and inboxes moving forward.
