Biography

Ambassador Cronin brings decades of legal, business, governmental, and foreign policy experience to her role at Smith, Costello & Crawford. She served as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland from 2022 to 2025, where she advanced U.S. foreign policy priorities, strengthened bilateral economic ties, and promoted trade and investment growth. Through strategic engagement with U.S. multinationals and targeted commercial diplomacy, she helped elevate Ireland from the 9th to the 6th largest foreign direct investor in the United States and led efforts to safeguard economic stability following Brexit. Her contributions to the U.S.-Ireland relationship earned her the Outstanding Contribution to U.S.-Ireland Partnership Award from Ireland INC.

From 2013 to 2022, Ambassador Cronin served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, making history as the first woman Majority Leader and the first woman House Chair of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary. She was the architect of landmark criminal justice reform legislation and a leader in economic development and education initiatives, including legislation creating an angel investment tax credit. She served on numerous legislative committees, including House Ways and Means and Economic Development and Emerging Technologies.

A seasoned trial lawyer, Ambassador Cronin has served as a mediator and arbitrator specializing in complex civil disputes. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She is a graduate of Stonehill College and Suffolk University Law School.
